Maybe we could incorporate some of their cultures a little more into the schedule. If they have anything they would like to teach people or show people, this might provide good participation.

Coasteering and Indian Dancing were really popular here. I think the majority of the kids really enjoyed the adventure team activities. I think that should definitely be an option for next year. Unfortunately, I know my group, was not able to do the things the children did the day before because of the weather. However, everyone was optimistic and it still was a success.

Would you say you now have an increase appreciation and understanding about other cultures and nationalities?

Everyone but 3 people said yes. 2 out of these 3 said not sure, and one said no.

What do you think are the main challenges for people of a different nationality living in Ireland?

  • Ciaran: Racism
  • Anon: I think that the main challenge is fear; people can be scared of someone who looks, speaks different, so I think that's a main reason. That's how foreigners can be bullied, physically and verbally abused.
  • Lauren: The way we speak and our accent
  • Ronan: Different culture
  • Aodan: Ignorance
  • Zurar: make new friends
  • Adam: Speaking Irish
  • Lorraine: making friends
  • Hemin: making friends
  • Hasib: yes
  • Niamh: racism and ignorance
  • Shivani: settling with the Irish culture
  • Rosa: Racism
  • Ciara: Getting jobs and making friends
  • Joshua: the cold weather
  • Christopher: the language meeting new people
  • Daria: I guess it's dealing with bullying, learning new languages, and getting accustomed to the weather.
  • Glenn: Very hard fighting with it
  • Arjun: Racism and bullying
  • Bhim: Racism
  • Sean: Discrimination and exclusion
  • Claire: Discrimination
  • Christivan: The discrimination and learning English
  • Sarah: I think people may have challenges like racism
  • Kelliiee: Racism
  • Clara: Stand up to racism
  • Donal: To cope with racism and prejudice in mature, adult ways.
  • Juvan: To speak and get along with other people.
  • Umar: racism
  • Darren: being slagged
  • Micheal: racism

Making friends is extremely important in creating smooth immersion into a culture. It has been a common theme that the children feel making friends is essential to a happy life. It helps to prevent racism and gives children strength and courage to approach a new culture optimistically.

  • Shivani: More pens, longer, more food
  • Rosa: to be longer

  • Christopher: It could be longer
  • Daria: I think the food could be improved, but overall everything was really great.
  • Glenn: make it longer
  • Arjun: Better food and we need a tuck shop
  • Bhim: It should be bigger and longer
