About Us | Our Story
Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racist charity that has been growing from 1995 when Shaka Hislop donated £50stg to a local anti-racism campaign in Newcastle upon Tyne. Show Racism the Red Card is now present in United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Ireland.
The aim of our organisation is to produce anti-racist educational resources, which harness the high profile of professional footballers to combat racism. Our educational materials are very accessible and have been very successful.
The campaigns in each country have education through sport as a common goal but draw on different local resources to get the message across. So in Ireland, the involvement of the Gaelic Players Association and Irish Rugby Union Players Association is of great importance to us.
Show Racism the Red Card requires volunteers to help build the message of the project. Our volunteer policy broadly outlines how we see the role of volunteers in our organisation. Currently we are looking for campaign, media and fundraising volunteers.
Our Mission Statement
Our Mission is to challenge racism through providing education resources and intercultural activity which support integration.
Introducing Jeff the Ref!
Jeff the Ref is a cuddly and friendly dog who has recently been adopted by the "Show Racism the Red Card" team to help tackle racism in Ireland. Jeff loves sports and believes everyone should enjoy the games too, regardless of their background, be it colour, nationality, religion or culture. Jeff believes racism is not acceptable and should it be about, be sure that Jeff will get his red card out! More from Jeff can be found in our downloads section.
